January
New Year's Day - Sunday, January 1st, The celebrations of the previous night continue into the day, although things become more sedate by midday.

Tumpek Wariga/Tumpek Uduh - Saturday, January 7th, A special day when Balinese Hindu give thanks to the plants.

Shivaratri Day - Sunday, January 22nd, Is the most auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva and is popularly known as the night of Shiva.

Chinese New Year - Monday, January 23rd, Is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most. Celebrate this moment to explore the uniqueness of this festivity while staying with us.

Sugihan - Thursday-Friday, January 26th-27th, The starting of the Galungan & Kuningan festival.

Penampahan - Tuesday, January 31st, Galungan preparation day including put traditional ornaments for the ceremony and cooking.

February
Galungan - Wednesday-Thursday, February 1st-2nd, One of Bali's major festivals, celebrates the return of Balinese gods and deified ancestors to Bali. For ten days, Balinese families will entertain and welcome with prayers and offerings, along with ceremonies to cleanse and balance the inner and outer energy on the island. Galungan lasts for 10 days and features, among other things, barongs dancing from temple to temple in each village. The festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The origins of Galungan are still a mystery, but essentially this is the beginning of the week in which the gods and ancestors descend to earth…and good triumphs over evil.

Kuningan Ceremony - Saturday, February 11th, This festival is held ten days after the Galungan Festival, signifying the closing of the new year holiday. On this day, special offerings made of yellow rice and special dishes are offered, while every family compound and temple looks amazing with ornaments. Believed to be the ascendent day of ancestral holy spirits and Deities back to heaven.

March
Food, Hotel & Tourism Bali - Thursday - Saturday, March 1st - 3rd, Bali remains at the forefront of the tourism industry in Indonesia, recently receiving the award for the best Spa destination in the world to add to its previous list of world tourism and hospitality awards. To cater to the growing number of tourists a whole host of new hotels have recently opened with more expected to be completed later this year and in 2012. Big opportunities exist right across the board, in food and drink, bakery and the hospitality sector to meet a more affluent middle class and increasing numbers of foreign arrivals.

Tumpek Krulut - Saturday, March 17th, A special day when Balinese Hindu give thanks to the gamelan instruments.

Melasti - Monday-Wednesday, March 19th-21st, Precedes Nyepi and is the loud part of the two-day event, where well-dressed villagers offer flowers and fruit and holy men sacrifice pigs.

Pengerupukan Day (Ogoh-ogoh procession) - Thursday, March 22nd, A day before Nyepi Day (the Day of Silence).

Nyepi day (Bali New Year–Caka 1934) - Friday, March 23rd, This holiday is the Balinese New Year called icaka New Year, the day of total silence throughout the island. No activity, no traffic at all on the roads, no fire may be lit for 24 hours. Great purification and sacrificial rites are held the day before so as to exorcize evil spirits from every corner of the island.

Bali Spirit Festival - Wednesday - Sunday, March 28th-April 1st,
Annual festival of yoga, dance, and music, held in Ubud.

Tumpek Uye/Tumpek Kandang - Saturday, April 21st, A special day when Balinese Hindu give thanks to the animals.

May
National Awakening Day - Sunday, May 20th, 'Hari Kebangkitan Nasional' is a public holiday in Indonesia to mark the principles of Indonesian state philosophy. Government offices and schools host this event.

Tumpek Wayang - Saturday, April 26th, A special day when Balinese Hindu give thanks to the shadow puppets.

June
Annual Bali Arts Festival - Tuesday - Thursday, June 12th-July 12th, A range of festive cultural performance and art exhibitions, participants coming from all regencies around Bali, also from outside the island Kite Festival – a fun event seeing lots of kite flying throughout the day, and a real boon for tourists who want to get a unique glimpse of another side of Bali

Saraswati Day - Saturday, June 16th, This day is devoted to God's Manifestation as Dewi Saraswati, the beautiful Goddess of Knowledge, Art and Literature. On this day, books of knowledge, manuscripts and the Wedas are blessed and special offerings are made for them.

Pagerwesi - Wednesday, June 20th, A day when Balinese Hindu prays to the God to protect themselves from evil

Tumpek Landep - Saturday, June 30th, A special day when Balinese Hindu give thanks to the metal weapons.

Kite Festival - a fun event seeing lots of kite flying throughout the day, and a real boon for tourists who want to get a unique glimpse of another side of Bali

July
Negara Bull Races - bulls are washed and decorated with garlands, coupled to chariots and then raced in an enthralling event. The bull races are staged between July and October.

August

Independence Day - August 17th, Sees Bali adorned with national flags, along with the rest of the country, and feature processions, traditional music and dancing.

Ubud Writers and Readers Festival - Friday-Tuesday, October 5th-9th, Goes off for five days every year in October and sees dozens of writers from several countries gather, culminating in one of the best events of its type in the country

Sanur Village Festival - Monday-Friday, November 19th-23rd, An annual community event in Sanur, featuring environmental –awareness activities, yoga, sports, cultural performance, and food bazaar.

Bali International Jazz Festival - A major event on the island, and in Indonesia as a whole, with performers from all over the world playing out to crowds over a period of three days.

December
Christmas Day - Tuesday, December 25th, As with elsewhere in Asia, Christmas is celebrated by Bali's Christian faithful and tourists get particularly jovial at resort bars and restaurants

New Year's Eve - Monday, December 31st, sees dinners, dancing, partying, a traditional countdown and lots of fireworks in the bigger resorts
